Our Mission & Governance

The Dandenong & District Netball Association (DDNA) is a community-driven organization dedicated to fostering a love for netball in a professional, inclusive, and affordable environment.

We are proudly affiliated with Netball Victoria and governed by a dedicated Volunteer Committee of Management, elected annually in March. As the appointed managers of the Gloria Pyke Netball & Sports Complex under an agreement with the City of Greater Dandenong, we take pride in maintaining a premier sporting hub for our region.

Independent & Sustainable

Unlike many community organizations, DDNA is self-funded. Our operations, facility improvements, and programs are powered entirely by member entry fees, court hire, and the support of our local netball community. We do not receive ongoing council or government funding, ensuring that every dollar invested by our members goes directly back into enhancing their sporting experience.

Our Commitment

We provide a comprehensive range of competitions for Seniors, Juniors, Girls, and Boys, focusing on:

• Accessible Sport: Providing low-cost recreational opportunities for all.

• Pathways: Actively developing the next generation of Umpires, Coaches, Players, and Volunteers.

• Excellence: Delivering well-structured competitions that cater to all skill levels.

Our History

The roots of netball in the Dandenong District trace back to the 1920s, when the sport was known as "Women’s Basketball." What began as winter afternoon matches played on school grounds and in local parks has evolved into the thriving association we see today.

• Growth & Expansion: By the 1960s, surging participation led to the formal establishment of the DDNA. Throughout the 1970s, our competitions transitioned from various local halls and reserves to more permanent facilities.

• A Home at Greaves Reserve: In April 1980, fifteen asphalt courts were constructed at Greaves Reserve, uniting all Saturday matches at a single venue for the first time. The Ella Athorn Pavilion followed in 1982, a project toward which the Association proudly contributed $25,000 in capital and fit-out costs.

• The Modern Era: The transformation into a premier regional facility was completed in 1996 with the addition of four timber-floored indoor courts. This $1.2 million project saw the Association contribute $120,000 to ensure the complex was equipped to a professional standard.

Our competitive spirit remains strong, highlighted by our 17&U Representative Team, who were crowned Central East Champions in 2016 and finished as Runners-Up in 2018.
